Leading the Human Side of shipping.

Helping maritime organisations strengthen leadership, communication, and human performance through psychologically safe, high-performing teams at sea and ashore.

Navigating workplace challenges in maritime teams

In high-pressure maritime environments, differences in generation, culture, gender and personality can quietly erode communication, trust and teamwork. Over time, this can lead to misunderstanding, conflict, disengagement and reduced team performance.

I help maritime organisations address these challenges early by strengthening leadership, communication and collaboration. This creates the conditions for psychological safety, where people feel confident to speak up, learn from one another and perform safely and effectively under pressure.

I’m Tineke Zoet, a former maritime officer and Maritime Leadership & Human Performance Consultant.

I work with ship-and shore-based teams to strengthen leadership, communication, and human performance in complex, high-pressure maritime environments.

Having worked at sea and ashore, I understand the realities of multicultural crews, generational differences, and male-dominated workplaces, where unspoken norms, hierarchy, and pressure can quietly affect trust, communication, and performance.

Informed by an MPhil in Human Factors and industry experience, I bring a practical, human-centred approach that helps teams address issues early before stress escalates, communication breaks down, or safety and performance are affected.

“The feedback after the meeting was amazing. A number of the women came up to me to say how brilliant they thought you were and how much they enjoyed the session.”

"Fascinating workshop.  Really got me thinking.  Opened my mind to the fact that there may be potential reasons why my communication with some of my students isn't always effective, and that it could be due to generational differences.
